  1. 1. Free market system isn't actually free. Manipulated by the wealthier people, in a competitive strategy. Free market is what buys politicians.
    2. The reason we can't organize the same capitalism in the United States because we live in a global society. For example- the outsides of the "American Dream" (perfect/middle class neighborhood)
    3. While supposed to be the wealthiest country, 63% of people in the United States can afford an $1,000 emergency. Often times GoFundMe's are created to help any medical emergency.
    4. Precondition- "cancer is from smoking cigarettes." Something/an action that comes before to get rid of all the possible outcomes.
    5. Complain about no money for health care, but can spend millions to bomb another country.
    6. Automation-driveless cars, robots going to the upper class. When you go to the grocery store theres self checkouts, no cashiers. Automation is saving us money by not paying employees for their work, but we are not using it the way we should. How can we keep people employee if everything is relying on machines.
    7. When employees get paid, they put their money back into the economy by purchasing things. Robots can't buy stuff and put money towards the economy.

  2. 1-The richest and most powerful members of society manipulate the "free" market to suit their needs.
2-Economic inequality is a precondition to violence. and the economic system we live in breeds economic inequality. thus the system we live in creates violence.
3-The development of agriculture has brought out the more selfish parts of humans by creating a competitive environment, rather than the collaborative environment we enjoyed as hunter gatherers.
4-our economic system is based off of scarcity, yet we still for some reason encourage rampant consumerism.
5-Oftentimes when people become wealthy they donate less because they lose the ability to empathize with those who are less fortunate. wealth develops an elitist mindset.
6-Rich countries are allowed to spend however much they want and can go into massive debt because they make their own money
7- the us actively interferes in the business of other countries when they present a threat to their economic system

  3. 1. Socioeconomic disparity is the largest ailment in the world today, according to Joseph. There is a correlation between capitalism and these ailments.
    2. Our culture has really developed around capitalism, causing violence, disparity, and other issues. Joseph explains that for every middle class neighborhood, there is an uber wealthy or a poor area on the other side.
    3. Our “free market” isn’t actually free, but instead shaped by the richest people in the world. Joseph explains that the “group versus group” mentality is causing more of a gap between the wealthiest and the poorest in the world.
    4. Socialism or forms of welfare states vary a lot from the US. These welfare states, like Denmark, have much better public health, general happiness, and more. That said, the US can’t exactly update their policy to this because the evolution of economic policies over time takes just that: time.
    5. Even though the US is the wealthiest nation in the world, there is continuous evidence that US citizens can’t afford even basic needs. According to the video, 60% of Americans can’t afford a $1,000 emergency. Jimmy Dore says that if the wealthiest country in the world experiences half of its population in poverty, it is a “failed system”.
    6. Our economy is based on scarcity. People want to shop and save for it, but if there is no money for the poorest people to shop, then our economy crashes. We need money to go back into the economy in order to grow.
    7. The US government and economy is run by certain huge institutions that have so much control that our government will never “run out” of money. The ability to print our own money without question, the fundamental relationship between our banks and our government, and the progression of millionaires in the US continues to show the apparent corruption of our government.

  4. 7 big take always 2-3 sentences each

    - You can’t look at countries separately and apply certain things to certain areas we need to unit and globalize. We should look at countries separately to see what does and doesn’t work though
    - 63% of people in America can’t afford a 1000$ emergency despite being the richest country
    - Depending on where you’re born you’re going to be pre conditioned to certain things
    - Automation and advances in technology benefit the upper class ( upper 1-5% ) leaving everyone else in the dust. The money made off of robots doesn’t go back into the economy, it goes into the bank account/ pocket of someone who already has all the money they need
    - Employment is rising but there are also those off the grid who aren’t being accounted for. We might have more employment but the jobs offer no benefits or promising future.
    - Once you reach a threshold of 75,000$ a year you meet a happy life style. This statistic will differ depending on where you live ( Los Angeles may be 100,000$ )
    - The richer you got the less you’re able to pick up on social cues. They also did a study with monopoly where the person who was given an advantage at the start of the game still thought they deserved the win
    - Hunger and homelessness in America could be ended with a total of 70 billion dollars. Jeff Bezos could easily do this and still have 70 billion left over making him still one of the richest people in the world

  5. 1. “Capitalism is the embodiment of group vs group”. I found this to be super interesting because there will always be one group vs another, but is there a way to lessen the differences between each group, an example would be our wage gap.
    2. “Free market buys politicians like you buy pizza”. This statement kind of blew my mind and really made me think about the way our society works. I really truly am starting to believe the phrase that money buys power.
    3. “Have to do something different with our economy, because it is the foundation”. Our economy is the foundation of our society, so it is really important that if we want to change things with our society that we look closer at our economy.
    4. “Determinism happened when agriculture was created”. I found this to be important because we weren't preset to be so determined to beat our neighbor, but more like this competition based mindset was evolved when agriculture was created, and along with that classes.
    5. “Gig economy= freelancers”. This quote stood out to me because at first I wasn't completely aware of what a ‘freelancer’ was until I found that it is an individual who works for multiple companies at different times, rather than one. So there's not always a steady day to day job, and a gig is a one time event.
    6. “Estimated unemployment about 14%”. Fourteen percent is a really high unemployment rate, also in the video Peter Joseph mentioned how there are many individuals that go uncounted for when estimating that percent.
    7. “Oppression of labor has been one of the biggest forms of oppression”. This was something that just really stood out to me during the talk, especially because if you examine it oppression of labor is really easy to maintain in reality.
